What is film wedding photography, and how is it different from digital?
Film photography captures light on physical film, resulting in soft tones, unique colors, and a natural grain that digital simply cannot replicate.
Unlike digital images, film cannot be instantly reviewed, making it a more thoughtful process that demands a higher level of skill, focus and craftsmanship. With analog film, a photographer’s expertise is paramount, as they must precisely expose and compose each image based on the lighting, moment, and scene.
The result is a timeless, cinematic aesthetic that feels organic and artistic, transporting you back to specific moments in a deeply intimate and personal way. Film’s qualities highlight subtle details in light and shadow, creating one-of-a-kind photographs. This considered approach ensures your wedding images remain as special and unique as the day itself.
If you're dreaming of a wedding day as extraordinary as your love, consider adding a few rolls of film to your photoshoot and infuse your memories with a touch of magic and artistry that only film can deliver, creating heirloom images to cherish for generations.
Here are some key advantages of film over digital:
Authenticity: Film captures natural light, texture, and emotion with a soft, organic feel.
Timelessness: Film images have a classic, nostalgic quality that never goes out of style.
Distinct Aesthetic: The grain, color depth, and dynamic range in film provide a rich, cinematic look.
Artistic Process: Shooting with film is more intentional and thoughtful, resulting in carefully crafted, meaningful images.

FAQ
Q: Why choose film photography for my Paris wedding?
A: Paris and its surroundings are full of texture, light, class and timeless architecture—elements that film enhances beautifully. Film photography brings a refined, nostalgic quality to your wedding images, making them feel like they belong in a fashion editorial or a classic love story. If you value artistry and authenticity, film is the perfect choice.
Q: Is it possible to shoot my wedding day entirely on film?
A: Yes, absolutely! I can shoot your entire wedding on film if that’s your preference. While I also offer hybrid coverage with both film and digital, shooting entirely on film offers a pure, timeless aesthetic that truly captures the essence of your day. Film is a more deliberate process, so the number of images may be fewer than with digital, but the result will be a collection of unique, beautifully crafted moments.
Q: How many film photos will we receive?
A: The number of film images depends on your package and the flow of your wedding day. Since each roll of film has a limited number of frames, I focus on capturing meaningful, beautifully composed moments. Normally, you can expect around 28 successful images from a roll of 35 mm film, and around 7 images from a roll of 120 film.
For a perfect variety of images, I typically recommend using at least 4-5 rolls of film on your wedding day. This will give you around 120 film images, offering a rich collection of moments captured in the unique aesthetic that film provides. If you opt for hybrid coverage, you’ll receive both your curated film scans and digital images.
Q: How do you deliver film images? What is the process and timeframe?
A: I work with a number of trusted labs to develop and scan your rolls of film after the wedding. Once the images are scanned into digital files, I carefully review and perform slight touch-ups where needed. The final edited digital images are then delivered to you in a personal online gallery, where you can download your high-resolution photos.
The typical delivery time for your digital images is 3 to 4 weeks after your wedding day. If you require faster delivery, I offer an expedited service for an additional charge. If you’d like to keep the physical film negatives, I can send them to you for an additional fee.
Q: What type of film do you use?
A: I use a variety of film stocks based on lighting, mood, and other criteria to best capture your day. For color film photography, I typically work with Kodak Image Pro 100, Kodak Portra 400, and Kodak Gold. For black-and-white photography, I primarily use Ilford HP5. I also work with a 120 film camera, which uses larger film stock that allows for better detail and a more refined aesthetic. While each roll of 120 film only contains up to 15 images (compared to 36 images in a 35mm roll), the higher resolution and depth make it perfect for capturing special moments in fine detail.
If you have a particular film stock in mind, I’d be happy to experiment and incorporate it into your wedding coverage for a truly personalized touch.
Q: Can film be shot in low-light situations, such as evening receptions?
A: Yes, but film performs best in natural or well-lit environments. For evening receptions or very dim settings, I may use push processing techniques and flash to maintain the film’s character while ensuring properly exposed images. For these reasons, I typically recommend complementing the film coverage with digital photography for low-light or situations or fast-moving subjects.
Q: What happens if a film roll is damaged or lost?
A: I take every precaution to ensure film safety, from secure storage to professional lab processing. Additionally, I often shoot multiple film rolls as a backup, so no important moment is ever lost. In my 7 years of photography experience, this has never happened, and I’ve always ensured the safety of every roll I’ve worked with.
However, if you're particularly concerned about this, it might be a good idea to consider complementing your film coverage with digital photography. This way, you can have the peace of mind knowing that all your memories are captured in both formats.
Q: Do you travel outside Paris for destination weddings?
A: Absolutely! While I am based in Paris, I travel throughout France, Italy, Europe, and beyond. I’m particularly passionate about destination weddings, and if I have the availability, I would be thrilled to accommodate your request. However, destination weddings require thorough planning, so booking as early as possible is always a sound choice. Travel fees vary depending on the location, so feel free to inquire for a custom quote.
Q: How can we book you for our wedding?
A: To secure your date, simply reach out via my contact form, and we’ll chat about your vision and how I can capture it. A signed contract and deposit are required to confirm your booking. Since I take on a limited number of weddings each year, I recommend booking early to ensure your spot.
